What is the Order of the Arrow?
The Order of the Arrow, often called "the OA" is known as the national honor society for Scouting. We were founded in 1915 by Dr. E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson at the Treasure Island Camp of the Philadelphia Council. The OA is strongly dedicated to serving the community, the scout troop and the council. The purpose of the Order of the Arrow is fourfold:
  • To recognize those Scout campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives
  • To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit
  • To promote Scout camping
  • To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others

Who are we?
The Order of the Arrow is divided into regions, sections and lodges. Our lodge name is Alibamu and we serve the Tukabatchee Area Council. The Tukabatchee Area Council serves 14 counties in south central Alabama: Autauga, Bullock, Butler, Chilton, Coosa, Crenshaw, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Perry, Tallapoosa, Wilcox. Based in Montgomery, other communities within the council's service area include Prattville, Selma, Alexander City, Marion, Millbrook, Clanton, Greenville, Camden, Tuskegee and Wetumpka.

How do I get in?
Induction into the lodge begins with the troop. Youth scouts must be elected by their fellow troop members regardless of their own membership in the order. The requirements are as follows:

  • Must be registered with a Boy Scout troop or Varsity Scout team
  • Must hold the First Class rank
  • Must have experienced fifteen days and nights of Boy Scout camping during a two year period prior to the election. This must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping such as summer camp.
  • Must be approved by your scoutmaster.

Adult selection is based on their ability to perform the necessary functions to help the Order fulfill its purpose and is not for recognition. Selected adult Scouters must be an asset to the Order because of demonstrated abilities and provide a positive role model for the youth members of the lodge. Each year, upon holding a troop or team election for youth candidates which results in at least one youth candidate being elected, the unit committee may recommend one adult to the lodge adult selection committee.
